Sight for Kids

What is Sight for Kids?

LLEF Sight for Kids

is a program designed to identify existing vision disorders, and provide eyewear to deserving children. The program is primarily designed to screen children between the ages of 7 and 18 and to provide a full eye exam by a doctor of opthamology. The doctor will then determine of the child will need corrective eyewear. If needed, the child will receive two prepared frames of their choosing with corrective lenses. Through a grant with Johnson & Johnson in partnership with Lions Clubs International Foundation, LLEF is able to provide this service to the children of Louisiana totally free of charge to the family.

Our Sight for Kids program

is conducted by volunteer Lions and offered 100% FREE to schools, churches and all residents of Louisiana. Children are individually screened by having them focus on a vision screening device from 3 feet away. This device takes a photo of your child’s eyes and is able to detect many different abnormalities. Once referred, the child may be selected to have a further examination by a doctor of opthamology in our Sight for Kids "doctor's office in a trailer" that we bring to the site. They will be able to select the frames they would like and if necessary will receive two pair of glasses within a month.

Parents interested in having their child participate should contact the child’s school to inquire if a Sight for Kids screening can be scheduled. For more information on scheduling, call the LLEF office at (504) 525-7235.
